MyPetUniverse.co.uk are pleased to offer a varied selection of excellent quality Dog Muzzles. A dog muzzle is basically something that is placed over the snout of a dog to limit its ability to open its mouth wide enough to bite. There are a wide variety of reasons why a dog muzzle could be used and a range of different dog muzzle types. In general muzzles are often used when a dog has behavioural issues and needs to be trained properly. In some cases this may be an over aggressive dog where the muzzle is needed to prevent it from biting but it is not only aggressive or dangerous dogs that may require a muzzle. For some dogs it is part of their nature to chase things such as other animals and this may be a problem when walking the dog. A muzzle may be used in this case to protect other animals.
In some cases a muzzle can be extremely useful when the dog has to enter a stressful situation that may cause it some distress such as taking it to the vet. A dog may become aggressive when stressed and a trip to the vet can prove difficult because it will come across other animals and will have to be handled by the vet or assistant, someone the dog is probably unfamiliar with. Similarly a dog may also become stressed when you have to administer medication or bathe it, two situations dogs generally do not like!
When fitting a new dog muzzle you should gradually get your dog used to it so that it is comfortable wearing it. Place some food at the end of the muzzle so that the dog voluntarily places it nose into it. Do this a few times before actually fastening it and remember to positively encourage the dog as you are doing this. Also, slowly vary the times and places that you do this so that your dog is as comfortable as possible wearing it. It is important to remember that a muzzle alone will not solve the problems of a aggressive or unhappy dog.
