Dog Crates, Dog Cages and Carriers
Welcome to the MyPetUniverse.co.uk Dog Crates and Dog Cage Section. To many humans it may seem cruel keeping a dog in a small cage or crate but your dog will almost certainly not feel that way. Providing your dog with a space of his own can help his feelings of security and help to reduce your dog’s feeling of anxiety. The crate, when made more comfortable with blankets and bedding, can act as a “den” for the dog, something dogs have a natural instinct for. There are many advantages to using a dog crate and one of their main uses is for the purposes of house training. A dog cage can also be useful for keeping your pet safe and out of trouble when you are not home, stopping it chewing furniture of damaging your property when unsupervised. They can also be extremely useful if you need to transport your dog to the vet or other places, they can be stopped from running off or just distracting you when you are driving. For your dogs own happiness it is good for the dog to have their own place, somewhere familiar and comfortable that they can retreat to and relax.
When buying a dog crate there are some things that should be considered. The size is obviously a vital consideration and a dog’s crate should be big enough for the dog to stand up fully and turn around and also lie on its side. This applies to adult dogs and it is worth remembering that in many cases the cage will be bought when the dog is still a puppy. The cage should, obviously be bought for the size of dog the puppy will grow into. If this is the case then efforts should be made to make the crate smaller for the puppy to imitate the den feeling and stop the puppy from using a far corner as a toilet. To do this simply make a moveable partition from wire mesh or something similar, partitions can also be bought in some cases. It is also worth checking the tray at the bottom of the cage. This tray should be made of metal and not plastic which can crack or breakdown. The tray should also be smooth as the dog will be lying on it. It is advisable to place your dog cage in a family area, an part of your home where people often spend time. Here at MyPetUniverse.co.uk we have a wide selection of dog crates available in a variety of sizes ranging from small to giant so you should be able to find the correct size of cage for your dog.
